New South Wales has the largest number of NDIS participants of any state, and its providers range from sole traders in the regions to large SIL operators across Greater Sydney.

Victorian providers work under the national NDIS rules plus a few state-specific layers, including the Victorian Disability Worker Commission and Victoria's own public holidays such as Melbourne Cup Day.

Queensland's providers are spread along a long coastline and deep into the regions, so travel claiming, remote pricing and rosters across large distances are everyday concerns.

Western Australia moved from its state-run disability scheme to the national NDIS later than the eastern states, and its providers work two to three hours behind the east coast.

South Australia was one of the first NDIS trial sites (for children, from 2013), and its providers operate on Central time with their own mix of state public holidays.

Tasmania was an early NDIS trial site (for young people aged 15 to 24, from 2013). Its providers support participants across a small but dispersed population, with regional holidays that differ between the north and south.

The ACT began its NDIS rollout in 2014 and was among the first jurisdictions to transition fully. Its compact provider market serves Canberra and the surrounding NSW region.

The Northern Territory has the highest share of remote and very remote communities in Australia, so remote price limits, travel and thin workforces shape how providers operate.
